The Administrative capital of South Africa, Pretoria, or the ‘Jacaranda City’ is best known for its annual display of purple flowers in October. Located in the northern part of Gauteng, Pretoria is the historic centre of government in the former ZAR. Pretoria is also known as Tshwane, named after the Tswana/Ndebele Chief Tshwane.
Pretoria was officially founded in 1855 by Marthinus Pretorius who was a leader of the Voortrekkers.
The Pretoria region spans an area of approximately 687,5km2.
Pretoria is one of three capital cities in the country and is the seat of the government’s executive branch.
